Read: Open Up and Say Yumburger

January 26th, 2006

Found this in one of the forums I frequent and I just had the urge to post it here.

The gist: “Ugly American” tourists visit Jollibee and make fun of and play with the food.

Silly tourists.

Over the Holidays

January 24th, 2006

The holiday stress was starting to take its toll when I made my detour to Segundo Piso at Terry Selection in the basement of The Podium for a special lunch. I was tired but eager to reward myself for finishing the Christmas shopping early. Not too keen on having a heavy meal, I was pretty set on ordering a sandwich for take out when I came in. But which sandwich? I decided to take a chance by letting my finger choose for me. I opened the menu and flipped to the sandwiches. I let my finger go up and down the smooth clear plastic menu until it settled on a section of the page. That was how I came to order my Chori Quezo sandwich.

The large sandwich, which I ordered on ciabatta bread, I had sliced into two hoping to save half of it for merienda. It had a generous helping of chorizo slivers covered in a blanket of lettuce, tomato and melted edam cheese. It was so easy to eat since it held together well when I bit into it while typing last minute copy deadlines.

In a fit of Christmas spirit, the other half I wanted to keep was shared with a harassed co-worker who still hadn’t had his lunch. And just like me, he enjoyed it as well.

What is it with foot-long hotdogs and Antipolo? At the Ynares Center tiangge, I found many stalls offering them on sticks and as a sandwich. The best one was the stall that topped its sandwich with a generous amount of shredded cabbage with the bun lightly toasted too. It hits the spot and was very affordable as well.
